The Clinical Skills Centre consists of three main areas.
The main area includes seven clinical teaching rooms, circling a large central seminar room. On a daily basis this is where most of the teaching takes place. The clinical teaching rooms are not designed for specific tasks but are flexible and can be rearranged depending on the skills being taught. There is also a designated resuscitation training room and accommodation for staff.
Additional to these spaces, we have a multipurpose simulation area, a further two seminar rooms, and self-directed learning rooms in which students can practice skills with clinical equipment and simulators.
The final and newest area is the Dow Clinical Simulation Suite consisting of three consultation rooms, a six bedded state of the art hospital ward and a High Dependency Area. We have extensive audio-visual recording facilities throughout this area. Adjoining this is a control room and breakout rooms which allow recording or real time observation of activities taking place within any part of the Suite. The Dow Clinical Simulation Suite provides a contemporary healthcare environment for our learners. The Suite also has up to date IT and health informatics provision which mirrors that in the wider NHS.
Further refurbishment is planned in 2019 which will create further immersive simulation opportunities, and the ability to utilise the latest technology.
