Advanced Airway Techniques for Consultant Anaesthetists

This is a new half-day course, which is aimed at consultant anaesthetists within NHS Tayside. The course is largely practical based with a tutor ratio of 1:2 or 1:3 so is very much ‘hands on’. Following the practical sessions there will be two interactive lectures.  The course will start at 8:30 (registration from 08:15) and conclude at 12:15.

A mixture of animal, cadaveric and mannequin teaching tools are used.

Course Objective

To familiarise Tayside consultants with the techniques and equipment used in advanced airway management specifically within Tayside hospitals.

Programme Includes:

• Practice with the fiberscope on a cadaveric model
• Opportunity to perform needle and surgical cricothyrotomy on animal models
• Further stations covering video laryngoscopes, ILMA, airway exchange catheters etc.
• 2 interactive sessions covering extubation of the high-risk airway and the management of challenging airway cases

This event is approved by the Royal College of Anaesthetists for 3 CPD points.
