Laparoscopic Thiel's Human Cadaveric Bariatric Surgery Course

Operative Programme to include the following:

  • Laparoscopic stapling and suturing (animal model)
  • Laparoscopic gastric banding (cadaver)
  • Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (cadaver)
  • Laparoscopic gastric bypass (cadaver)
  • Laparoscopic preparation of a Roux en Y loop (cadaver)

Thiel's soft embalming technique is a sophisticated method of preservation of complete human cadavers that allows them to maintain most of the features of a live body, particularly with regard to the authenticity of colour, tissue consistency and flexibility. These characteristics make a Thiel's human cadaver a superb model for laparoscopic training, vastly superior to any other model. In combination with a simulated operating theatre environment fully equipped with state of the art Storz HD systems and with a full range of laparoscopic instruments including HARMONIC, this course will provide each delegate with a surgical experience that is the closest possible to reality.
This course is ideally aimed at senior trainees and consultant surgeons that have already acquired some competence in basic laparoscopic techniques and wish to refine them on Thiel's human cadaver under the tutorship of eminent laparoscopic experts (1 tutor for each operating table). The operative programme will cover a wide range of advanced bariatric procedures. Specific training requirements will be addressed where possible and, time permitting, additional requests of training in specific procedures may be satisfied.

This course is aimed at ST6 and above.

This course will NOT be reimbursed by Storz.

The University of Dundee is currently the leading centre in the UK using Thiel embalmed cadavers, thanks to the pioneering work of its Centre of Anatomy and Human Identification (CAHID.) for more information on our Thiel courses
