PROGRAMME OF ROBOTIC TRAINING

BACKGROUND
The Dundee Institute for Healthcare Simulation brings together the expertise of two Centres with long established reputations as leaders in simulation-based medical education. Located within one of the largest teaching hospitals in Europe the Institute is an exemplar of academics and clinicians working together, and in collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders including industry, to develop and deliver a high quality, relevant training portfolio for healthcare professionals at all stages of their career and across a variety of disciplines. Recognising the increasing use of robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery across various surgical specialties the Institute has developed a structured portfolio of training to support surgeons and their OR teams. The provision of surgical robotics in our teaching hospital, has allowed us to develop a broad surgical faculty across key disciplines to lead our training programmes. Our reputation and expertise in delivering simulation-based medical education, access to Thiel embalmed cadavers and support from industry and other sector stake allows us to be a centre for robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery.

ROBOTIC TRAINING PORTFOLIO
We are developing a portfolio of training programmes, to complement clinical service requirements and deliver multi-speciality, high quality and cost effective education in this cutting-edge surgical technology. This training programme includes basic generic, novice and master classes; to provide longitudinal training across the healthcare team allowing safe and effective delivery of robotic surgery. Training is delivered by expert faculty using Da Vinci Xi dual system with simulator Robot from INTUITIVE, using animal tissue and human thiel embalmed cadavers.
