Advanced Laryngeal & Pharyngeal Endoscopic and Laser Surgery Course

This course has been approved by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and has been awarded 12 CPD points. Suitable for ST6,7,8, Fellows and Junior consultants.

This is a 2 day advanced course designed for senior trainees & practising surgeons wanting to develop their skills in laryngeal & phonosurgical skills. Advanced Surgical simulation lab with specially preserved cadavers (Thiel embalming method) will offer excellent life like learning environment with excellent trainee:trainer ratio to practice, closely supervised, endoscopic microsurgery with rigid & flexible endoscopy with the application of cold steel instruments & KTP and CO2 Laser. Demonstration & hands on practice of TransNasalEsophagoscopy (TNE).

Day 1: Laryngeal Surgery

• Diagnostic Microlaryngoscopy set up & endoscopic anatomy of the Larynx
• CO2 laser: science & safety | hands on simulation surgery
• Setting up CO2 laser: surgical pearls
• Surgical Management of Benign Laryngeal Pathology 
• Vocal Cord Paralysis: Endoscopic and Transcervical injection augmentation of the vocal cord
• European Laryngology Association Classification of Laryngeal Laser Surgery
• Surgical Management of Subglottic Pathology
• Thyroplasty: Type 1
 
Day 2: Pharyngeal Surgery
 
Endoscopic Anatomy and Clinical examination of the Upper Aerodigestive Tract
Transnasal Esophagoscopy
Transnasal Endoscopic Assessment of Swallowing and management of Oropharyngeal Dysphagia with endoscopic balloon dilatation
Management of Pharyngeal Pouch: Endoscopic & External approach
Demonstration Endoscopic Stapling of Pharyngeal Pouch on Pig cadaver model
(All participants will have facility to practice this on pig model)
Endoscopic Management of Pharyngeal Pouch with laser 
CO2 laser procedures for tongue base pathology
KTP Laser in animal hybrid model
Blue laser in animal hybrid model
Channel endoscopy for outpatient interventions
 
After attending the full course and completing the online feedback, you will receive a certificate to confirm you have attended our course on laser surgery and were taught about laser safety in clinical practice. This is not a certificate to confirm you are safe to use laser in clinical practice.
