Endoscopic Sinus Surgery, Advanced & Open Sinus Surgery by Thiel Cadaver Dissection FESS1 and FESS 2

NEW FOR 2020 THE FESS1 AND FESS2 WILL RUN AS A COMBINED COURSE RATHER THAN SINGLE DAYS.
DAY 1 - FESS 1
Allied Specialities including, ENT Trainees, Core training CT1 - ST4, Ophthalmology & Neurosurgery)

This Course, using Thiel cadaveric specimens’ provides trainees with the skills to become familiar with nasal endoscope and instrument handling.  Understanding of the detailed anatomy of the lateral wall of the nose and the anterior paranasal sinuses will be gained by practical surgical dissection exercises.

  • Includes SPA ligation
  • Facility provides individual work stations equipped to a high level
  • Structured curriculum

Educational aims:

Gain experience by simulation of:

  • Uncinectomy
  • Bulla resction
  • Defining the ground lamella
  • Anterior ethmoidectomy
  • Middle meatal antrostomy
  • Sphenopalatine artery ligation

 

DAY 2 - FESS 2
(for ENT Trainees & Consultants) ST3 -ST8

This dissection Course using Thiel fixed cadavers aims to build on core skills and provides training in some of the more challenging aspects of Endoscopic Sinus Surgery, including those necessary for emergency safe practice and those necessary for dealing with complications of endoscopic ethmoidectomy. Our aim is for trainees to develop competency at managing rhinological emergencies and the acute complications of FESS such as orbital haematoma and CSF leak.

Educational aims

  • Posterior ethmoid and sphenoid anatomy
  • Surgical approaches for dealing with epistaxis
  • Intra-operative management of ESS complications
  • Emergency orbital decompression surgery
  • Frontal recess anatomy
  • Repair and anterior skull base CSF leak
