Synopsis

This course, using Thiel cadaveric specimens’ provides trainees with the skills to become familiar with nasal endoscope and instrument handling.  The trainee will gain an understanding of the detailed anatomy of the lateral wall of the nose and the  paranasal sinuses, using practical surgical dissection exercises.  The FESS 2 Course aims to build on core skills and provides training in some of the more challenging aspects of Endoscopic Sinus Surgery, including those necessary for emergency safe practice and dealing with complications of endoscopic ethmoidectomy and rhinological emergencies.

  • Includes SPA ligation and maxillary artery ligation

  • Deals with the management of the complications of ESS including CSF leak and orbital trauma

  • Uncinectomy
  • Bulla resection
  • Defining the ground lamella
  • Anterior ethmoidectomy
  • Middle meatal antrostomy
  • Sphenopalatine artery ligation
  • Posterior ethmoid and sphenoid surgery
  • Surgical approaches for dealing with epistaxis including anterior ethmoid artery ligation
  • Intra-operative management of ESS complications
  • Emergency orbital decompression surgery
  • Repair and anterior skull base CSF leak
