Description:
This is a one day hands-on cadaveric course that will cover the principles of orthopaedic surgical skills in knee arthroscopy on Thiel embalmed human cadavers. Procedures are done in the wet lab in simulated theatre environment, giving a more realistic operating room experience. With presentations kept to a minimum, most of the day is spent practicing skills on the cadaver.
Target audience:
Aimed at ST2—ST4 Orthopaedic trainees and SAS grades who would like to gain experience in knee arthroscopy. Numbers are limited to 10 delegates with 2 delegates and 1 faculty member per cadaver. Delegates should have performed over 10 knee arthroscopies as a surgeon (supervised or unsupervised). Validated logbook must be submitted with the registration form.
Aims and objectives:
To provide training in basic principles of knee arthroscopy and the range of common operative procedures performed in knee arthroscopy practice
Learning outcomes:
On completion of the course the participants will have performed the following surgical skills: Draping and portal placement for knee arthroscopy, diagnostic knee arthroscopy, removal of a loose body, synovial biopsy, gain competency in recognizing the indications and performing a medial and lateral arthroscopic meniscectomy, gain competency in recognizing the indications and perform arthroscopic chondroplasty and debridement, gain competency in recognizing the indications and perform microfractures.
