The Thiel embalming technique is a sophisticated method of preservation of complete human cadavers that allow the cadaver to maintain most of the features of a live body, particularly with regards to the authenticity of colour, tissue consistency and flexibility (see laparoscopic view of the peritoneum). Laparoscopic courses in other specialities at our centre using Thiel's cadavers have been successful and are in high demand.
This 2 day course is aimed at Senior Trainees and Consultants who have already achieved some competency in Urological Laparoscopy. The operative programme will cover a wide range of techniques of Laparoscopic Nephrectomy and delegate will have the opportunity to have “hands on” experience on both calf models and human cadavers to practise a wide range of Advanced Laparoscopic Techniques. During the course each participant will practice Laparoscopic Suturing Skills, Laparoscopic Transperitoneal and Retroperitoneal Nephrectomy, Laparoscopic Partial Nephrectomy etc. Face to face discussion with experts and close supervision will be provided during the course.
Programme includes:
· Patient and procedure selection, patient optimization
· Theatre Setup and pre flight checks
· Laparoscopic Suturing
· Laparoscopic Transperitoneal Nephrectomy (calf and cadaver)
· Laparoscopic Partial Nephrectomy
· Management of complications in Laparoscopic Nephrectomy
