Description:
This is a one day hands-on cadaveric course that will cover commonly used surgical approaches to the cervical, thoracolumbar and lumbar spine including lumbar discectomy. Thiel embalmed human cadavers, giving a more realistic operating room experience. With presentations kept to a minimum, most of the day is spent practicing operative skills.
Target audience:
Aimed at ST1—ST4 Orthopaedic trainees, ST1 - ST5 Neurosurgery trainees and SAS grades who would like to gain experience in spine surgery. Numbers are limited to 10 delegates with 2 delegates for every operating site.
Aims and objectives:
To provide training in surgical approaches to cervical, thoracolumbar and lumbar spine including lumbar discectomy. Surgical techniques will be taught, practiced and evaluated.
Learning outcomes:
On completion the delegates should be able to:
- Identify the anatomical landmarks and
- Perform the following surgical approaches/procedures: Anterior surgical approach to the cervical spine, posterior approach to the cervical spine, posterior approach to the thoracolumbar spine, posterior approach to the lumbar spine, lumbar discectomy
