This 3 day, intensive hands on practical Endonasal ‘Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery’ (FESS) course, using Thiel embalmed cadaveric specimens’ provides trainees with the skills to move from core sinus surgery procedures to advanced skull based work. It is a competency based approach to surgery following a structured curriculum with a high delegate to faculty ratio.

Course layout

  • Day 1 - Focusing on the anterior sinuses and emergency procedures.
  • Day 2 - Explore surgery to the orbit including DCR and orbital decompression as well as frontal sinus surgery including a Draf III procedure.
  • Day 3 - The skull base day. At the start of the day delegates will operate and open the skull base on the cadavers. In the afternoon you will be operating on 3D printed models supplied from PJ Wormalds company Fusetec. You will be joined by a Neurosurgical Trainee. The 3D models are fitted with simulated blood, CSF and a pituitary tumour for the Neurosurgical Trainees to dissect out.

The aim of the course is to give  a comprehensive systematic approach to a range of sinus procedures. We will also cover how to deal with complications and emergency rhinological surgery.
